LAC Cheshire Lanes Run and visit to Adam Sykes 2024

Adam Sykes offered LAC members the opportunity to visit his showrooms just outside Warrington. Now I’ve been before and I know what a privilege that is as the showrooms are definitely not open to the general public and contain a fantastic assortment of classic racing cars, sports cars motor bikes and memorabilia.

We realised that travelling all the way to Warrington might seem a bit far for some people so to add an extra incitement we organised a 22mile social run from just south of Warrington through the Cheshire lanes to Adam’s.

So on the 19th October cars started arriving at The Thorn Tree in Appleton Thorn where we were joined by members of North West Casual Classics who were also having a run to Adam’s. The Thorn Tree opened up early for us and tea/coffee was available.

The run itself started at 10.00 with the route going east towards Daresbury and the Lewis Carol Centre which is next to the church where Lewis Carol’s father was the vicar. There had been heavy rain the week before and the receding floods had left quite a bit of best quality Cheshire crud on the roads. The route then sung south to pass Lewis Carrol’s birthplace. None of the entrants reported spotting Cheshire Cats though – perhaps another time!

Down towards Northwich then east to pass the Anderton Boat Lift and out through the pretty village of Great Budworth towards Arley Hall and back north to Adam’s.

The first cars arrived just after 11.00 sporting new colour schemes i.e. brown from the waist down. Adam had kindly laid on tea, coffee, soft drinks and cakes for all the entrants and we then spent a couple of hours admiring both Adam’s cars and our fellow entrants cars.

It was interesting for both clubs because many of the cars were ‘new’ for all of us and it made a great sight with many friendly chats.

Many thanks to Mike Wood for the pictures and here’s to another visit in the future.
