At this year’s Lancashire Automobile Club’s Dinner Dance I received an award for 50years service to the Club (actually it’s 54 but who’s counting). The award is a rather interesting silver tankard which has been in the safe hands of John Waddington for quite a few years. It was originaly the Lancashire Automobile Club ‘James Briggs – Bury Trophy’ for the Club Championship and Outstanding Club Member Contribution which was presented from 1954 – 59. It is now inscribed with 1940 -1970’s Bill Turner and 1970’s – 2020’s Chris Lee. The tankard itself has the Queens head on the lid with ‘Crowned in Westminster Abbey June 2nd 1953’ on the underside of the lid.
What made it more special was that Mike Wood did the presentation. Mike has certainly done more for the Club over the last 70 years than anyone else alive. He continues to actively support the Club by assisting with organising events including stepping in the breach to take on the role of Clerk of Course for the Coast to Coast Run.
Many thanks to all involved.
