General Secretary’s report AGM 6th February 2018
St Georges day run started and finished at Blackburn Northern Sports on Pleckgate Drive the centre has plenty of parking and Carolyn and team did a sterling job providing beacon butty’s, teas and coffees for the entrants and marshals, the run was well supported with 70 plus entrants and covered approximately 95 miles through the Lancastrian countryside then a buffet back at the sports centre.
Thanks to Clerk of the Course Anthony Taylor Carolyn and Eileen and others for organising butties and Sandra Williams.
Next on the clubs calendar in May is the Fellsman, starting with bacon butties at Stirk House Hotel near Skipton first car off at 9:30 covering 140 miles plotted on Ordinance Survey Land Ranger maps 102, 103, 97 and 98 covered some familiar territory and some new finishing back at the Srirk House, well done to the people who managed to find all the boards and within the time window. The event is John Hartley’s brain chilled, and thank you to all the marshals, Mike Wood, Chris Lee and everyone else helping out on the day.
The 55th Greater Manchester to Blackpool in June, starting at Worsely old hall on three different intertwining routes (Chris Likes a challenge) with lunch at Fulwood barracks finishing at Blackpool, we had over 60 cars covering up to 100 miles, Thanks to Martin Wylie as Clerk of the Course and Sandra Williams for organising lunch at Fulwood Barracks.
The event was sponsored by BMW Bowker and many of our event had been supported by Bill Bowker Snr who sadly passed away this year, Bill Bowker Jnr has promised to continue their LAC membership and involvement with our events.
Next in line is The 25th Coast to Coast started from it’s now usual venue, the Midland Hotel, Morecambe, and headed towards the east coast in wet and dank conditions. The morning coffee stop was at a venue used by the LAC many years ago, Shap Wells hotel, where timed sprints where once the order of the day. Whilst still raining, the event moved to Akebar Park for the lunch halt and with it the first glimpses of sun. After lunch the entrants headed towards Scripps Garage before completing the tour for the second time at Dunsley Hall Country house Hotel near Whitby. A buffet and awards presentation completed a very enjoyable day. Once again, a small team did much to ensure that the event was able to run. My thanks to Chris Lee for the route, to Sandra Williams for all her unseen work.
We had the Highland 3 Day, the 2018 Highland sold out by May and has some previous and some new entrants the event was enjoyed by all who took part we managed to find some new roads to explore, we covered in excess of 1000 miles over 4 days starting day 0 at the The Hetland Hall Hotel near Dunfries, staying over at Rosslea Hall Hotel at Helensbrgh and two nights at the Dundonnel Hotel then back to Rosslea Hall for the Sunday evening, the event worked very well thanks to the road book worked up by Owen Drew and help from John Harley, David Barret on the event with a thank you to Jan Butterworth for adding a helping hand, Jan also has been maintaining interest in the face book page and every one for posting photos and comments.
