The Festival will now run in 2021
Following the directive from Motorsport UK – the governing body for Motor Racing in Great Britain – that all motorsport events are now suspended until at least June 30th, the organisers of the Yorkshire Motorsport Festival and Wolfstones Hillclimb, have announced that the first running of the Festival, which was set to take place on June 26-28 this year, will now be staged over the equivalent weekend next year: June 25th-27th 2021.
“Postponement of the event is not an option,” explains Michael McErlain, Joint MD of the Festival, “as one of our key reasons for the timing of the Festival is that it was planned to coincide with the silage harvesting season in the fields it is set to occupy, in order to avoid unnecessary crop wastage and make it as environmentally friendly as possible.
“Like myself, the organising team is very disappointed that we will not be able to put on the Festival this year. We had very much hoped, with its timing, that it might have been a celebration for people locally of being able to return to some kind of a more normalised everyday existence.
“However, let’s be clear – this is not the cancellation of the Yorkshire Motorsport Festival, or the Wolfstones Hillclimb. We are already committing to stage both the Festival and the hilllclimb in 2021, and our experience from this year will help us to put on an event that will look very much like we had intended for Year 2: bigger, brighter and a step forward from our original plans for the first year.
“We are also determined that the Centenary of Speed Hillclimbing in the Holmfirth Area should not go by unnoticed and uncelebrated. It is a really important anniversary both for our region and for motorsport. Therefore, we are already planning something to mark the occasion, which will take place as close to the anniversary date in August as we can possibly make happen. We will release details of this as soon as we are able to.
“I would like to thank all those who committed to be at the Yorkshire Motorsport Festival and Wolfstones Speed Hillclimb. We will be contacting you to talk about this year and the future. We look forward to continuing on with our mission to give Yorkshire an event that is a major focal point for motorsport across the North.”
